Auto Parts Kit is the only tool available for VisualAge Smalltalk
that allows you to publish your VisualAge parts as COM interfaces for use
with Visual Basic, Visual C++ and Active Server Pages. You can now embed
your VisualAge applications within Microsoft IIS Web Server or set it up
as a DCOM server for Visual Basic applications or other DCOM clients.
When a COM client application invokes an operation, Auto Parts Kit ensures that
the correct message is sent to the appropriate Smalltalk object.
Developers can export COM type libraries that describe the operations
available on their VisualAge parts. Development environments like Visual
Basic that read COM type libraries can know exactly what attributes,
actions, and events your VisualAge parts understand.
Auto Parts Kit also provides developers with the ability to add VisualAge
Smalltalk support for any third party ActiveX control. VisualAge parts
are automatically generated to access COM objects.
Auto Parts Kit will read COM type libraries that are supplied with
third-party ActiveX controls and automatically create Smalltalk classes
that allow you to immediately start interacting with the controls.
You can also add the ActiveX controls to the Composition Editor Palette!
Auto Parts Kit includes pre-packaged VisualAge parts which appear in the
Composition Editor palette to enable manipulation of Microsoft Word, Excel
and Internet Explorer through ActiveX atuomation. These parts handle all
the low-level COM inter-application communication, so your developers
don't have to. With Auto Parts Kit creating and manipulating Microsoft
Word documents and Excel spreadsheets is as easy as adding parts and
connecting them. Now you can produce high quality reports directly
from VisualAge, and make them immediately available for use within the
most popular desktop applications.
All this can be done completely within Smalltalk without C or C++ coding!
